Is XBGuide safe? Common questions

Yes. XBGuide never asks for your Xbox or Microsoft password, only shows Xbox Live data that is already public, and stores very little. The details are below.

Does XBGuide need my Xbox or Microsoft password?

No. There is no Microsoft sign-in anywhere in XBGuide. You prove a gamertag is yours by putting a short code in your Xbox bio, and linking with /link set stores only your Discord ID, gamertag and Xbox user ID.

Is XBGuide official?

No. XBGuide is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft or Xbox.

Where does the data come from?

Public Xbox Live data, fetched through OpenXBL (xbl.io). XBGuide sees what anyone can see when they look up your gamertag, and your Xbox privacy settings decide what that is.

What does XBGuide store, and for how long?

  • Your account link, if you make one: your Discord ID, gamertag and Xbox user ID, plus your card theme and accent color. Kept until you run /link remove.
  • Gamerscore history: one gamerscore number per day for a gamertag when it is looked up, for the "+G since" line on cards. Deleted after 400 days.
  • Card templates, if you are a supporter and save them. Kept until you delete them or run /link remove.
  • Feedback sent with /feedback: deleted after 180 days. Votes on top.gg: deleted after 90 days.

Profiles, achievements and online status are fetched live and only cached for a few minutes. The privacy policy lists everything.

Can people find my gamertag on Google through XBGuide?

Player pages on xbguide.com tell search engines not to index them, so they are kept out of search results. The Xbox Live status pages are public and meant to be found.

Where is my data kept?

In a private database with XBGuide's hosting provider, Railway. Daily backups stay on that same private storage, and only the latest 7 are kept. Data is never sold, and is used only to run XBGuide.

How do I delete my data?

Run /link remove in Discord. It immediately deletes your link, preferences, gamerscore history and card templates. To have a gamertag removed from XBGuide entirely, including one that was never linked, ask through /feedback or the support server.

Why can't XBGuide see my games or achievements?

Your Xbox privacy settings are hiding them from apps. On your Xbox, go to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Game content, and set who can see your game history and achievements to Everybody. XBGuide is not on your friends list, so Friends is not enough.

Why can't XBGuide see if I am online?

In the same place, open Online status & history and set who can see if you are online to Everybody.

Why is my online status a little behind?

To stay within Xbox API limits, XBGuide caches online status for up to 2 minutes and other profile data for up to 10. Wait a moment and try again.
